How do I use pokesav?

Ok first off if this is in the wrong page; sorry.
Second off, if there is already a topic about this just redirect me to the site and I'm truly sorry.
Third off, it's my first time posting be easy on me.  : )

Anyways, I know how to use pokesav, but I just don't know how to redirect that save to the Emulator so I can play it on my Platinum save.

Any help is appreciated.
Thanks in advance!

Re: How do I use pokesav?

I have no idea what pokesav is, but if you need to convert save files from other things into desmume's savefile format, look for that in the FAQ.

Re: How do I use pokesav?

wow alright time to teach ppl about Pokesav and desmume tongue...

Since Pokesav only works with .sav files, you need to go to File > Export Backup Memory which will create the .sav file (desmume uses a new save filetype .dsv which can't be used for Pokesav). You can also use Manivo's link to convert stuff. Make sure the new .sav file is the exact name of the game ur using.

Edit that .sav with PokeSav then put it back to whereever your other save files are. Delete the old .dsv file (if one exists for your game) so that desmume will load the new, edited .sav file instead. Then your good to go. You'll have to do this everytime you edit stuff because Desmume will create a new .dsv file based on the .sav file you made. The dsv file must be deleted or moved so that it will load the sav one instead.

Re: How do I use pokesav?

So you're saying that I'm gonna have to E-mail that guy so he can convert it for me?

Or can I just put .dsv at the end of the text?

Re: How do I use pokesav?

lol omg i didn't know the site got shut down.

No, just go to File > Export Backup Memory in desmume. That will create the sav file you need to edit. After deleting the old .dsv file and putting in the new, edited .sav file in the directory, desmume will recognize it and create a new .dsv file based off your .sav one. Desmume will only use a .dsv file for saving, and when one is not provided, it'll try accessing a .sav file instead.

Re: How do I use pokesav?

I've done the first step, "Export backup memory"  it creates a .sav file but no .dsv file.

Whenever I try to edit the file in pokesav it gives me an error message saying wrong file.

Re: How do I use pokesav?

who told you export backup memory makes a .dsv file? it makes a .sav file. You must be using the wrong pokesav version or opening the wrong file.

He did.

And I got my pokesav download from Projectpokemon.org  for platinum (US) ROM.  I don't see anything wrong with that.

Re: How do I use pokesav?

Nevermind I found out the problem, I was saving it as a different .sav then the one I needed.  Now I'm on to my next step.

Re: How do I use pokesav?

1: Export Backup Memory as *.sav
2: Edit *.sav in Pokesav
3: Import Backup Memory using *.sav
4: ?????
5: Profit!
