Slowdown issues in Pokemon games.

Hopefully someone here can help me with my issue. I already skimmed though the FAQ and nothing I tried actually helped. I understand that you guys aren't going to support Soul Silver/Heart Gold (though i'm not sure why?), but the problem isn't just with those two. It's with the other Pokemon games for the DS as well.

Basically, I get serious slow downs randomly (usually in cities) in all of the Pokemon games even though my computer should be perfectly capable of running them. With the FPS display on, the first number is always at 60FPS. It never drops. The second number is at 30FPS in some places, but in others like cities it drops as low as 8-12 and is extremely annoying. I tried using the SoftRasterizer for rendering but it not only literally made the game look worse, it also dropped performance further.

Are there any other settings I can tweak to make these games run better?

My system:

3.6GHz AMD Phenom II x4 940
ATi Radeon HD 5770 @ 1050MHz Core/5600MHz Memory
4GB PNY 800MHz DDR2 RAM (4-4-4-12 timings)
2x250GB Samsung Spinpoint F3 Hard drives in RAID 0
Windows 7 x64 Ultimate
Using DeSmuME 0.9.5 x64

Nothing to do, play on your very own DS. Also, I guess someone with access to writing on the Wiki, will enhance that point to all Pokemon games, so we can kill all the noise generated by them.

Hm... That would mean actually buying something lol. Seeing as you're an admin, is there any particular reason as to why you're not supporting the newest Pokemon games? I understand that they have some form of anti-piracy but couldn't that be solved if DeSmuME more closely emulated the DS?

Re: Slowdown issues in Pokemon games.

apparently you didnt read the faq well enough since it tells you that you cant do anything about the second number. Disable the frame limiter and fast forward through the slow parts.

Ah, well you see, the FAQ states: "If you are seeing 60/15 then..."

I thought it meant exactly 15, not low numbers in general. Thanks for clearing that up. Strange that a game as popular as Pokemon would be, as the FAQ says, "sloppily coded".

Slowdowns in cities is common for those games on Desmume. I get them as well. Nothing u can do but do what zero said. Wait until the developers get Desmume up to speed.

Does the 0.9.6 beta or whatever they call it run any faster? My friend keeps telling me to use NO$GBA but I'm a little reluctant to switch. According to him, it's faster. Any truth in that?

Re: Slowdown issues in Pokemon games.

It's really up to you. I feel desmume is much more compatible with games and emulates may graphical features that NO$GBA doesn't seem to be able to. Then again, NO$GBA hasn't been updated in literally years. NO$GBA does feel faster in cities, so you can choose which one. Desmume will get there eventually.

Re: Slowdown issues in Pokemon games.

Completely off topic, but is there any real reason NO$ is still the fastest? I always just put the compatibility problems down to it being so old, but is it a case of putting speed over compatibility, or is he (whoever made it) just that good?

Ended up switching over because Desmume is faster for me now and runs more stuff. Also save states, though whether thats good or bad I haven't decided. Just struck me as odd that other emus are only just catching up to it for speed.

As you said, completely off-topic, and discussed a zillion times: search a bit.
