I've been playing Pokemon Black 2. Somehow I accidentally created a save state on the emulator in the middle of a battle during the tournament in Driftveil City. I was playing the post-game when I accidentally pressed f2 and it sent me all the way back to the save state in Driftveil. I tried to close and open the game constantly but every time I press continue it brings me to the last in-game save that I made before creating that save state (right before I entered the tournament). What's weird is that after I accidentally pressed f2 I never did an in-game save. My last in-game save was during the post game but every time I open the game it still brings me to before the Driftveil tournament. I've tried looking at the save files but it still brings me to this point in the game. I've also tried recovering data in case it got overwritten too and I couldn't find anything. I'd really like getting my actual data back to where I was in post-game and not have to resort to using PokeHex.

Next time use ingame save, not the save state. Because you lose everything afterwards.

Okay gotcha, so just to confirm there's no way of getting the post-game data back?

To clarify, I had an in-game save when I was doing post-game but after I accidentally pressed f2 it wouldn't bring me back to that post-game save. Is this a data corruption or something else?

When you press F2 the game is faithfully restored to the state at that time, which includes the most recent in-game save at that time, which is now old.
If a data "recovery" didn't work then you really need to re-assess the quality of your backup & restore methodology. There's nothing magic here. It's just files.
At the moment you pressed F2 to load the old state, a record of the game at that state should have been placed in the (backups) directory for the game in the StateSlots directory. That is, assuming you're using the latest desmume and haven't disabled that feature or ill-advisedly run desmume directly from the zipfile or from program files or something similar. It's somewhere in there.

That's good to know, I'll keep trying to find the backup for the last in-game. Currently, I've checked the battery files and save state files but I haven't found anything yet from those. Do you have any suggestions at all on where else to look?

They're there with the savestates. That is, assuming you're using the latest desmume and haven't disabled that feature or ill-advisedly run desmume directly from the zipfile or from program files or something similar.

Okay that's good. I'm using the latest version and I haven't disabled the feature nor ran it from a zip file. The thing is that the only save state I have is the one that sent me back to the Driftveil tournament. And when I go to the save state files it brings me there still. This also happens with the battery file too. Is there still another way to access the post-game progress from before I pressed f2?

If it's not there, then one of the following applies:
1. You're wrong about "latest version"
2. Your kid brother disabled the feature.
3. You ill-advisedly ran desmume directly from the zipfile or from program files or something similar

The strange thing is that I didn't use it through a zip file nor had an outdated version. Maybe it was like a data corruption and it accidentally got the post-game data overwritten. I could always just replay the game again though.

It doesn't matter if anything's overwritten. There are backup files. Unless 1, 2, or 3.

Oh wait how do I access the backup files? Is there a method other than save states for me to access my previous data?
Offline
The only method to access previous data is to find previous files. Any previous file will do. I suggested previous files you might not have known you had. I can't predict any other previous files you might not have.
Offline
Oh gotcha that makes sense, is there a way to access the last in-game save before it got overwritten or can I only top so with save states?
Offline
You can access whatever is contained in the previous files you find. A save state with the last in-game save should exist unless 1,2, or 3. Why do I feel like a broken record?
Offline
Ohh okay, I just get confused with the differences of save states and in-game saves, sorry about that.
