recently ive been playing spirit tracks and to day i changed the file name and the game reset itself

change the filename back. Since you didn't think of this obvious fix, I will explain what to do in more detail.

you started with
BLORGUS.nds and your save data is in BLORGUS.dsv
you changed the NDS filename to SNAFU.nds. After booting that, you have new (empty) save data at SNAFU.dsv.

1. Make backups of everything. then delete SNAFU.dsv. rename SNAFU.nds back to BLORGUS.nds. Load BLORGUS.nds and your save data will be back, since it's linked to BLORGUS.dsv

2. Make backups of everything. then delete SNAFU.dsv. rename BLORGUS.dsv to SNAFU.dsv. Load SNAFU.nds and your save data will be back, because it's linked with SNAFU.dsv which you've arranged to actually be the old valuable save data
