Is it possible to run desmume in multiple windows with one controller?

I would like to shiny hunt in desmume across multiple instances all with one controller. I noticed that I have to click on the window for it to read my control inputs. Is there a setting I can enable so I can still control the game if the window isn't focused? Very new to this forum so please let me know if I've made a mistake somewhere. Thank you!

Read the sticky. This isn't a technical question. A technical question would be "I've found how to enable background input and I would like to discuss some shortcomings and offer some alternative designs".

As for you: click Config > Background Input
If you're on mac, I have no idea.
