I can't save state my game

So I wanted to play explorers of sky, but when I started up a rom it said "Could not read/write access to battery save file! The file will not be saved in this current session. Choose config > path settings and ensure that the saveram directory exists and is available for read and write access."

I do not know how to to ensure that the saveram directory exists so I don't know what to do precisely.
Could someone help me out with this?

dearchive desmume to a directory on your desktop and put all associated files there, instead of putting it in C:\ or C:\PROGRAM FILES or running it from the zip file directly as you've done
