The sound is weird and crackling

Hi! I just downloaded desmume and started using it and I have problems with the sound of the games and I also have lag when I play. The sound is weird and it crackles. I've tried a lot of settings but nothing works. My pc is pretty old does this have anything to do with it?
Does anyone have a solution please?

try changing config > sound setting > dual spu, or leaving on synchronous and changing synchronizer method. also while youre there, disable advanced spu logic and set interpolation to none, and go to the faq in the wiki stickied on all these forum threads to apply general speedup tips. yes, a old and slow computer is a problem.
