Unable to save in game.

A few weeks ago I was trying out Trauma Center and had the issue that I could not save in game, and got whatever the game’s baked in error response was whenever I tried to. For the time being I put up with using save states assuming it would happen with that game alone. Today I was trying to play Hotel Dusk and encountered the same issue, and despite my best efforts, I couldn't resolve it.

I have updated to the latest version, I've tried deleting desmume.ini, I've tried copy/pasting the battery folder location in path settings - all to no avail. A .dsv is created in the battery folder for the game, and is full of nothing but 257KB of the character ‘ÿ’ (this file I have also tried deleting multiple times)
I can load the saves of games I've played previously just fine, but it appears I cannot save in any game

Re: Unable to save in game.

stop using a decades-old version of desmume, I guess? I don't know what "games baked in error response" is.

Dude did you even read the post, I said I updated to the most recent version, and on top of that, the version I was using originally was from only a few months ago.

The error was in the game, not the Emulator, appearing whenever I attempted to save in game. I said “the game’s baked in error response,” because the error message IN the GAME was different depending on the GAME.

When I attempt to save in Trauma Center it literally just says "Attempt failed" over the save file. When I attempt to 'initialize' a save in Hotel Dusk, as the game calls it, I simply get the message "Initialization Failed."

Re: Unable to save in game.

both games save without problem for me. Just as I expected. Perhaps you've misconfigured your desmume. Delete desmume.ini and try again

Okay, this time that worked, as long as I don't load a save state from before deleting desmume.ini. Thanks for the help!

I'm guessing when I tried this previously I must've loaded a state and then tested to see if I could save.

Re: Unable to save in game.

Then youve hacked the game or the save data and got it in a predicament. Unhack your game and delete any existing save data and you won't have that problem anymore. Pay closer attention to what you do in the future and you may discover what you did to break it. You may also need to delete your desmume.ini file to do whatever customizations you did to break it, but I don't think anything there could cause this.
