Lost my in game save file due to save slot

I was playing Pokemon Platinum on my Mac, and at the beginning of the game i created a save slot in case my progress wouldn't save in game. After realizing that the in game save does indeed work, I stopped using save slots and continued progressing quite a bit into the game. I then accidentally pressed '1', which loaded my old save slot from the beginning and now I cannot seem to find my old in-game save.

I am not very knowledgeable with computers, but from what I've seen in some other forum posts, people who have gone through what I've gone through seem to have found a solution (I just cannot seem to figure it out as all of you are apparently tech wizards who use very complicated lingo that i do not understand).

Would anyone be able to find it in their heart to help me get back my in-game save file using the most basic of tech phrases that my daft brain could understand, please?

use time machine to recover an older .dsv file
