Dragon Quest V refuses to load properly

Not entirely sure what the issue is, never had a problem loading up a game before. Whenever I try and open it desmume just stays on the basic white screen, no sound or anything but it does still seem to start using up my CPU for some reason. Looked around for solutions and couldn't quite find any. If it is just incompatible with this emulator that's fine, would just like to play through the game again with a speedup function if possible. Using the latest build 0.9.11, no settings touched/changed.

File<Open ROM, I've also tried dragging it into the desmume window and it does the same thing.

Edit: I should note that I can view the games info via "ROM info", so at the very least the client is detecting the game. Also, this is the only DQ game that has issues with the emulator for some reason.

you've previously played dq5 and cheated or hacked it somehow, making the game software hang at bootup. remove any interfering .dct (cheat) or .dsv (save) files.
