Weird flickering/not responding when opening Desmume

Basically, it was working fine for a few days then all of a sudden i started getting these weird flashes and the not responding text at the top of the window. This happens whether i load a rom or not.

PC Specs: i5 4460 and GTX 970

I already tried updating gpu drivers.

I tried that still does it. its only when its loading the rom where its really bad but i'll still get occasional flickers.

Please please please if either of you figured out a way to fix this let me know.. I have searched everywhere and this is only the second instance I've seen of this happening besides my own and I cannot get an answer.. 2 suggestions, get an old driver and now Defrag.. if you solved it please post this is driving me insane for 2 days now.

Okay I'm going to do that but should I try to Defrag first? Also I just have windows defender, disable that? This is so crazy and random..

Disabling windows defender is not crazy and random, security software is the #1 cause of system malfunction, with viruses at #2.
Defrag is probably useless, since I read that the problem youre describing happens before you even load a rom.

sorry i misspoke i wasnt saying the idea was crazy, i meant this problem is crazy and random.. but it happens weather the rom is playing or not..okay heres the full issue.. i downloaded desmume and then no$gba after desmume was acting up.. no$ plays both nds and gba games.. i was getting no sound for only nds games.. but for GBA games i got sound, and no$ wouldnt even try to play certain NDS games.. i went into sound and it said right away that some settings were causing problems and it fixed itself... so now NO$GBA still wont play most NDS games ( pkmn black2, heart gold, it says reinsert game cartridge) but will play pkmn platinum for nds and gba games... but it has the same problem that DESMUME does, when playing pkmn platinum... and that problem is (on both emulators) that when the emulators are playing NDS games, they will either flash "not responding" really fast and looks like its trying to re-open itself down at the bottom near the start menu.... or it will do that same thing but it will freeze and be unplayable and keep flashing and trying to open itself, then after 30 seconds to a minute it stars again and repeats the process at random.. i am not asking for help with NO$GBA, Desmume is my go to, i only downloaded it because desmume wasnt working, and found out it has the same issue so i know its with the computer.. this makes it impossible to play or record on.. and i want to say thank you so much for trying to help your the only one, ive only found this issue on here and one other desmume thread.. sorry this is so long, i am going to try your advice and disable windows defender right now and see.. just wanted to give u all the info.. and this is a built pc, it was brand new last week with windows 7, i had my computer guy upgrade it to windows 10 enterprise a couple days ago.. so its all new..
it has amd fx-4170 cpu
12gb ddr3 dual channel ram
amd radeon hd 7800 series gpu
ASUS M5A99x EVO 2.0 MOBO

i broke myself to get this pc mainly for emulators, games and youtube, it sucks that its having these issues. thanks again for the help, really.

and unfortunatly for me, windows defender is already turned off because i downloaded malwarebytes and then deleted it later, i belive this problem also happened once with chrome to, the same thing..

ok i stopped reading when you said nocash and desmume both have the same problem with "not responding" and re-opening itself. this problem has nothing to do with desmume. reinstall your security software and scan for viruses. uninstall other shit from your system one by one until you find what's breaking every program. if you run out of shit to uninstall, then it's time to reformat.

update, i found out it is multiple programs having this problem.. i found a youtube video where hundreads of people were having this problem. the guy made a regisry file and it seems to have worked for everyone and has worked for me.. however that isnt good enough.. he says it can be caused from
- faulty RAM,
- bad video-cable connection,
- overheating CPU/GPU,
- update (or downgrade) graphics drive

and even though it is fixed(or masked for now) i want to know what is causing issues on my pc.

that is the video if anyone reads this and needs a fix, but i want to know more.. i did have malware trouble so i will put windows defender on or get somthing that can run a test right. thank you for your help zeromus.

I'm glad that fixed your problem, but that registry file looks like a very dirty hack to work around the problem, not an actual fix. My best bet is malware or some other program you've installed.
