Official CVS builds?

I've been thinking on doing some serious work on the CVS regarding the 3D core and the general speed. I know I can get easily a 10% speed up and make the 3D games look correct, but the current stopper is the unofficial builder...

I've been thinking on doing builds on my blog as I update the CVS, but still have to think about it. The good point is having trusted builds that will stop a bit before official releases to keep some surprises on the official releases, and having more control over what's in the CVS builds (for example, removing the "report bug" on the menus).

I'd like to receive some opinions, especially something a bit more elaborate than "do it" tongue

BTW, I've already posted this here, but I would like to hear more opinions about this. I've already a web page setup, but I'm waiting a bit more opinions about this.

Re: Official CVS builds?

Nothing too elaborate to say other than it would mostly solve the issue of unofficial builds ruining surprises, and people get access to the new features/bug fixes faster so it's good for them as well. The only issue is whether it would be more support or not. As someone in another forum mentioned, a lot of support for the last full official build can simply become "get the latest cvs build here".

Re: Official CVS builds?

I've already published the web page where I'll be hosting the builds:http://shashemudev.googlepages.com/. If there's isn't any objections from the team I'll start if as soon as possible (in less than 24h probably).

Re: Official CVS builds?

The 3D core would be nice to improve. Is the slow speed for me a speed issue or a "talk" to the graphics card thats not interpreting right. Though my brothers graphics card seems to be fine, and the video stays smooth.

The 3D core is quite fast, the only missing thing in the official version is a proper texture cache, which I've on my build (but isn't easily portable due to using STL). The rest should be quite fast CPU wise. The GPU load should be minimum, so if your card can't handle it, you should think about changing it.

Re: Official CVS builds?

Seeing no one objected against the builds, I've just uploaded the first one: let's all hope this turns well and I can keep on this smile

Re: Official CVS builds?

This is exciting. Yea it wasnt my graphics card as much as it was my drivers. Testing under Linux seemed to really make it beautiful!

STL stands for? I would like to test the texture cache issue. See if it resolves some issues....
