Stuck at start screen?

I downloaded desmume and Pokemon Black 2, but when I load the game up I get as far as the start screen (displaying new game, mystery gift, unova link, wfc settings, ect) and then I'm stuck.
I've attempted to press enter, spacebar, a number of keys. Even went so far as to set the 'enter' key to another one but nothing's getting me past that tease of a start screen.

Anyone know what's causing this?
