I want to use a save file i downloaded to play on the latest version of desmume and while i'm at it move the rest of my save files. What's the terminal command to open the folder holding the latest version's save files?

For Mac 0.9.7, .dsv battery files are saved in the same directory as the ROM. Save states for slots are saved in ~/Library/Application Support/DeSmuME/$APPVERSION/States, where $APPVERSION is the version of DeSmuME. In this case, $APPVERSION would be 0.9.7. If you're opening a .dst, you should be able to use the File->Load State From... menu option.
You shouldn't need any terminal commands to access any of these directories. But if you really want them, then I will mention nothing more than this: Mac OS X supports standard bash and tcsh shells. The command you need to switch directories is "cd", the command to view the current directory is "ls", and the command to move files is "mv". Read the associated man pages to figure out what works best for you.
