Acceleration Feature Request (Post if you agree so we can get it!)

Hello, my name is John and I have a feature that pretty much everyone would like to have. Unfortunately not everyone has the processing power to run the feature I am referring to. I have a reasonably new computer with 6GB of ram and would like a feature to speed up the game other than the tab button. Why not make it like No$GBA where you could speed up the emulation with a simple setting on the Emulation Tab. I think that if you have a fast computer, you should have the privilege of playing at a faster speed. I am halfway Pokemon Black right now and can't stand how slow the game is. Considering the animations for going into a battle or wild pokemon battle are the longest of any Pokemon game ever, there should be a feature that allows people to speed up their game.

Yes I have read the FAQ, and I am sorry that I personally couldn't find where DeSmuMe addressed the subject. I really hope that the moderators of this forum will take it up with DeSmuMe so we can get this feature in the next update for the software.

Don't get me wrong, I think this is an amazing program to be able to run DS games on our laptops and PCs, and Macs. I think anyone who agrees with what I am saying should post a reply to this topic so we can get this feature added! smile

P.S. If someone could direct me which section this is addressed in the FAQ, I would appreciate it. smile

write back when you have tried every option in the menu, specifically the ones under config > frameskip, specifically, disable frame limit and set skip to 9

That, my friend is frame skipping, in No$GBA, correct me if I am wrong,  was not frame skipping. I want a smooth play back not skipping video frames to gain speed? Wouldn't you like a feature like that as well?

then set the frame skip to 0 and it will skip 0 frames which is the same as not frame skipping

Then it goes back to normal speed! You are missing the point, they need to add a direct feature other than skipping video frames. Please Understand.

it only goes back to normal speed if you failed to disable frame limit. if it does actually go back to normal speed then your cpu is maxed out and the game can never run faster. desmume is slower than nocash. since you listed the useless figure of how many GB of ram your system has instead of the cpu speed, i dont expect you to know if your cpu is maxed out. but you could try finding out.

Bottomline: Frameskip 0 + no framelimit = as fast as your computer can do it. If it's still slow then your computer is not as awesome as you think it is.

Re: Acceleration Feature Request (Post if you agree so we can get it!)

I know it does work in some ways... but in parts of the ROM where it has slowdowns... it still slows down. One thing that would really need to be done... is to have an option where you can edit the limitation of the framelimit. It would be great have a default framelimit, or set the framelimit to whatever you want it to be. But having said that parts of the ROM where it has slowdowns... also has effect even if you have the framelimit off. I have confirmed this on a 4 GB RAM laptop that I have, which is an HP Pavilion dv7 Notebook.

Prahaps once all compatibility of ROMs have been done, then just maybe the team may work on fixing the lagging issues on the ROMs.

Like what they've actually stated in the FAQs, they are aiming to fix compatibility, not lagging issues. Prahaps lagging issues would be about the last of things that would have to be fixed.

So best to use the Frameskip option if there are lagging issues with the ROM. Knowing that the RAM needed is up to 256 MB, even with the fastest laptop or computer having the framelimit off with framskipping set to 0 in DeSmuME 0.9.7, it's not going to fix the lagging issue. So if there is lagging issues in a ROM, the frameskip should be used, until lagging issue has been fixed on a ROM, which I doubt will happen for a long time to come.
