Pokemon Platinum - save crash

I couldn't find any answer searching the forums so I'll post it here. Sorry if the question was already answered.

I'm playing Pokemon Platinum on DeSmuME 0.9.9 x64 on Win7. The game never had any serious problems except for a few bad renderings throughout the game, but at the end I ran into a serious problem - the game crashed whenever I saved.

I've been using in-game saves for about half of the game and I never had any problems. But later I just used the DeSmuME's quick save option and ignored the other. It was almost at the end of the game that I noticed that it crashes when I go to Save and get the text: "Saving a lot of data..." "Don't turn of the power."

I don't know whether I got too much data and it is simply impossible for the emulator to process, or did I pass an certain event in the game which changes the game's structure?!

I continued with the quick saves and finished the game and at the end it tries to save and crashes, so I won't be able to continue the post-game events.

Thanks in advance.

Re: Pokemon Platinum - save crash

how do you know the game crashed? i havent heard of any event in that game changing the game's structure, and theres no way its too much data for the emulator to process. it could take a while, though.. and if your disk ran out of room, desmume might get angry.

My questions about the potential causes were purely hypothetical. My laptop is new and has plenty of room on my disk.

Re: Pokemon Platinum - save crash

Is CPUE D074D1B3 enough?

Do I have to copy-paste all from ROM Info in DeSmuME menu?

Re: Pokemon Platinum - save crash

you should turn on console before run DeSmuME.
add line into desmume.ini "Show Console=1" to "Display" section

you will see like this

Any idea how it came to this?

I did put some AR codes at the beginning of the game and I did change my PC's clock (without changing the date) to alter the day/nighttimes in the game. But that was all before I made that last in-game save.

Is it safe to use this in-game save or will it definitely go corrupt and I should start the game totally anew?

Re: Pokemon Platinum - save crash

for future reference, thats _desmume_ crashing, not your game.

what i think happened is some of your cheating caused the game to create a glitched savefile, which persisted through your use of savestates. desmume easily gets angry if games do something abnormal with the savefile.

its never safe to cheat, but we're not experts on whether a method used to break the game advantageously has negative consequences in particular cases. there are millions of pokemon gamers on other forums who are better for asking.  if youre not doing anything unusual (for a pokemon gamer) then you shouldnt have any more or less luck than any other pokemon gamer

you could always try making plentiful backups of savestates and .dsv

Re: Pokemon Platinum - save crash

I'm not really a Pokemon gamer. I'm a genwunner, so my only aim is to get to know the storyline and dominate the new Pokemon with the original ones. That's why I gotta cheat - to catch at the very beginning the old ones. Also, the game is at its original speed unplayable, so I have to make it faster, though I don't think this is a kind of cheating that will glitch my savefile. I just want to be done with 50+ hrs of gameplay in max two days.

At least I know what to do in the future. Thanks for your advice and thanks to CrazyMax for his time.

Re: Pokemon Platinum - save crash

It's sad that desmume is so shitty that their respond for the help is "Too bad, next time try something else blah blah blah". Lol good thing i try to save an ingame file not so far into the game and notice that it doesn't work if you use the save states. Glad I didn't waste all my time to the E4 to notice that this shitty emulator can't save the game.
