Environment variable for specifying libGL's path?

Right now, I have successfully gotten the OpenGL 2D renderer to work on Mac OS X by symlinking /usr/X11/include/GL to /usr/include. I am wondering if there is a environment variable or option for me to set, which would allow configure to find libGL.

go ask experts at building things on osx. i dont think there are any such experts here.
