I am at sprout tower right now, I just downloaded desmume, and when I battle the bald guys there it freezes as my pokeballs are being brought out. Why does it do that? And if I'm doing something wrong, please help.

I just edited the faq to discuss our policy towards the new pokemon games: they arent supported. Go find help somewhere else or buy the cart.

care to share what the resolution was, for the record?

Due to AP measures the game will freeze randomly.

You may as well get the actual game anyway. There's so many features you can't take advantage of on the emulators yet, and some that are hard to use.

oh, really. but there are so many features in emulation that can't be used in real ds, so you may want to emulate it even if you own a ds and the game. to name a few:
- save states.
- cheats. and search for cheat.
- fast-forward/slow motion.
- screen resize. it might be too small for some people (or you may get DSi XL...)
and maybe some others. myself, i like emulation better than real ds, at least when at home.

AFAIK the only feature you can't get on an emulator is the retarded pedometer.

No Wi-Fi, no trading (you can use AR/Pokesav, but that really diminishes the gaming experience), Pokeathon is a pain without a stylus.
These type of games, which are heavily based on Wi-Fi and trading between games are just bad on emulator.

Oh yeah, that too.

I got past it fine. You just need to save occasionally. Before my game ever crashed (Including the big black boxes in the middle of the road in violet city etc), the sprites went all messed up. When the sprites go dodgy, save via the ingame save system, and lod that. That fixes the sprites and lets you carry on. It's quite frequent, had to do it three times - once in sprout tower, once walking from the tower to the gym, and once part way through route 36.
Running it on 1x resolution with bilinear, which is about the size of 2x.
Seems to happen a lot more often if you speed up the game, too.
