I had this error before, it's concering Dragon Quest IV
When I load a freshly downloaded ROM into DeSmuME emulator, it loads. When I try to involve a safe-file with it, it gives the following message:
The adventure log could not be saved. Please turn the power OFF and reinsert the game card.
I tried swapping the save files in the emulator itself, I tried converting both SAV and .DSV to eachother but that didn't seem to work aswell ![]()

I can't seem to find a working emulator with the ability to input codes. I want to use mines to gain a few quick levels and then putting it all back on my R4.
Maybe you know one?

use desmume 0.9.4 for windows which can enter action replay cheats

Go to Config -> Saves -> FRAM 256-kbit instead of Autodetect and then reset your Desmume.
If "FRAM 256-kbit" doesnt work, try all of the options under the "Saves" menu until you get one that'll load your saves.
Of course, you can rely on save states.. which was what i've been doing until I just discovered this solution.

why would you do that? desmume 0.9.4 can autodetect the save size correctly.

It doesn't for me so that's what i had to do for this game
And yes, I'm using 0.9.4

In case you used No$gba with that save before, you'd have to use the site http://www.shunyweb.info/convert to switch "No$gba .sav" to "RAW .sav", and only then import the RAW sav file to Desmume. Well, since you said you're trying to load an older save file, it's either Desmume 0.9.2 or No$gba...I don't know many people who use iDeaS...
Plus, make sure you deleted the already-made .dsv and .sav files in your destination folder so Desmume would have only 1 option to load.
Anyways, if you'll ever have a problem with sav files, i'd say you should try to load it with 0.9.2. If it doesn't load. the .sav file doesn't fit Desmume's raw type at all so you'd have to convert it with the site above. If it does work, there should be no problem loading it to 0.9.4, but I might be wrong...
Edit:
By the way, and credit to DottorLeo for this information, if you'd build the latest SVN the emulator would be able to import No$gba .savs.

Yeah, I used NO$GBA with this game at first but switched to Desmume cause no$gba was too buggy and unstable for Dragon Quest iv.
Fyi, I'm running it on Linux, compiled from source.
