Pokemon Diamond Save Type

I've been having problems saving with Diamond. I can easily use savestates, which work fine, but I also want to save in-game (actually going into the game menu and manually saving). Although it'll say save complete, whenever I reset the game and try to load the save from the Pokemon menu, it doesn't work. It just brings me back to Professor Rowan at the beginning of the game.

This may seem dumb, but what I'm trying to do is work the GBA slot. When I try to put in the FireRed GBA rom, it asks me to reset the game. Afterwards, however, if I try loading the savestate, it doesn't work (effects don't seem to occur like new pokemon appearing in certain areas). An alternative to this is loading from the actually game menu, but that doesn't seem to work.

Deleting the save type and forcing the intended one doesn't work? Auto-detection is not perfect, so that might be the issue.

Saving is borked in pokemon pearl/diamond right now. The saving part works just fine (as another emulator is able to pick up from that save), but the loading fails due to issues with the wifi part of the emulator.

I think it's been reported before.
