How to use a controller for the ds emulator

How do I use a controller for the ds emulator instead of using both the controller and mouse at the same time especially when I have to touch the screen with the mouse to get the games going ? Is there a way or do I need to use both the mouse and controller ? I'm asking because I tried to play one of the legend of zelda games and when I tried to create a new game file I have to use the mouse which sucks sad

Re: How to use a controller for the ds emulator

If you want to use a controller exclusively (no mouse), try the following steps:

Go to Config → Control Config and map all buttons/axes correctly.

For the touch screen, DeSmuME doesn’t support direct mapping to a controller by default—but there's a workaround:

Use JoyToKey (Windows) or AntiMicro (Linux): map, say, the right analog stick to mouse-movement and one button to left-click.

That way, you can position the cursor and “tap” without touching your actual mouse.
