Optimizing DeSmuME on my computer
Specs for my Computer:
Like most gamers, I've got a PC, of course.
AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 3800+
2.00 GHz
3.25 GB RAM
Windows XP Media Center Edition SP3
Why is a handheld Nintendo DS beating the hell out of my computer whenever I try to use the emulator? I think these specs are still pretty good, even though my computer's a few years old. Technical advise will be much appreciated.

Nobody knows anything? C'mon, help a brotha out.
EDIT: Trying the newest version... but it doesn't seem to help much. Also, the Harvest Moon ROM I'm running (Harvest Moon DS) won't respond to input.
