I'm kind of in a complicated situation here, can someone help me out?

So I've been using DeSmuME's save states and have never saved in-game because everytime I did, it just said:
"The game will be erased due to corruption or damage."

Now, after beating the Pokemon League, I am now in a situation where I cannot continue post-game.
I have two save states, one outside of the Elite Four and one immediately before it saves and the credits roll.

I've tried exporting a .sav and then importing it but it's not working or I'm doing it wrong.

I certainly don't want to start a new game. Can someone help me out?
I'm in a sort of a twisted predicament right here, chaps. Thanks!
