I am at sprout tower right now, I just downloaded desmume, and when I battle the bald guys there it freezes as my pokeballs are being brought out. Why does it do that? And if I'm doing something wrong, please help.

Hi.
I am playing Soul Silver on my DesmuME, and I have a problem with the Cheat option.
I wanted to enter a cheat, so I clicked it. The only option I had was to click the List option. I'm running 0.9.5 for the mac on my computer, if it helps at all. Can someone explain to me how to insert a cheat in?
