#1 Re: Support » Desmume in Wine - no sound » 2013-02-04 11:43:48

Nah, by basic solutions I actually meant messing around with Wine's driver settings rather than Desmume's settings. I'll try to work with that.

Alright, best thing I've found is that obviously when SoundCore2 is set to anything other than "2" (which is named DirectSound Interface in the actual GUI I guess), everything's fine and dandy...otherwise, the other initialization options don't affect the error message.

So Desmume (official 0.9.8) native Gtk release from Ubuntu 12.10's software centre is painfully slow (many games can't pass 50 FPS) and barely has settings to modify in its menus, so I tried to run the official 32bit Windows release on Wine. An error shows:
"DirectSound8Create error: E_INVALIDARG - An invalid parameter was passed to the returning function. Unable to initialize DirectSound".
I tried some basic solutions that sometimes work with other applications in Wine but to no avail, and it works so much better than the Linux build other than the lack of sound (games previously mentioned easily surpass 200+ FPS when disabling framerate limit) - any solution for that issue?

Hello, I'm using a PS2 controller with a PS2-USB adapter. When I try to assign the Fast Forward / Fast Forward Toggle buttons to a button on the controller, say L1, it assigns the Hotkey to Alt+L1 rather than just L1. My Alt button is NOT pressed. It does work right when assigning standard DS controls though.

How do I get rid of the Alt?

Side note: When you try to do something that requires a brain and a tiny bit of common sense in computers, then you ask about a problem caused by writing permissions, you should expect negativity.

No, it's better and more up to date. It doesn't require patches to run the game.

Desmume version? Did you get it from desmume.org? Do you use any codes?

#8 Re: Support » question about cheating in non-supported game » 2011-05-11 14:53:54

Use Google for tips, get the appropriate codes for your "genuinely bought game" as far as region is concerned, READ THE FAQ, and don't ask a question about an unsupported game in this forum.

#9 Re: Support » question about piracy of non-supported game » 2011-05-11 14:52:21

Pokemon games are NOT supported, but I suggest you to go read the "Compatibility" subforum or the FAQ before you ragequit this place. That subforum and FAQ are there for a great reason, so people like you who want to mindlessly play Pokemon without paying a dime will get your answers right away.

I think you should check some svn build that have no WiFi settings menu (between SVN 3800 till SVN 3900). I had forgot which SVN build but some SVN build between that I have said has no WiFi settings in it. When you found the version please try to emulate and compare the speed. big_smile

Play the official version if you can't understand the subtle hint of "People with a hold the program's source code can do lots of things, and the original developers can't go around the internet and fix the crap every single person who uploaded a SVN build somewhere in the web caused."

You can use save FILES between versions, you can't use save STATES. Save from ingame and retry.

edit: the game will occasionally speed up a little, then slow back down. i can tell because the of the music

Remove your INI file, follow the FAQ for optimization settings. If it still doesn't work, make sure your computer meets the recommended requirements in the FAQ.

well, i tried this but unfortunately it still runs slow. i don't know which FAQ has the recommended requirements, but i have a pretty decent alienware laptop. i can play games like starcraft 2 and aion on high settings, so i feel like it shouldn't be a hardware issue. any other ideas?

edit: i fixed it, it had nothing to do with desmume

Great. Let me guess, save battery mode was enabled? When you ask a question about PCs in general, always mention whether you use a laptop or a standard PC.

Just a note for future reference, there's only one FAQ, and the recommended requirements (at least for this game) should be something like a Dual Core 2GHZ+ processor. Plus, the min. reqs. in general are mentioned in the FAQ either way.

In DS Poke games, the X button is used for the menu.

It won't help him a bit if he doesn't experience any graphical issues at the moment with Software Rasterizer (which is mostly the better bet imo), anything that renders a picture will work fine. It's all in the FAQ, including what CPU is recommended for the emulator and how to get the best performance out of your system, you'll get yourself tired if you try to squeeze information out of any single person here who doesn't read anything beforehand.

I never rely on the normal save method either. Back on the last version my games wouldn't even save that way if I wanted them to. I would also recommend making a set of folders in your desmume folder for each of the paths and then set them to that location in the emulator it really simplifies things a lot since everything is well organized and within one location.

There's a reason why games wouldn't save properly (from in-game saves). That's usually not a good sign if it happens, mostly it's because you're using Desmume off some kind of portable device and you're doing something wrong with that along the way/you play an unpatched Pokemon game/etc.

There is no black screen, the music doesn't stop, skip, or repeat, the battle just never happens. Is this a problem with the rom or is it something with the emu itself? I've tried it both using the wi fi enabled version 0.9.6 and the official 0.9.7 and the same thing happens on both. If it helps at all, Victini cries, the text box disappears, and then the game freezes.
Ignore this, but I am leaving it to help.
I was able to initiate the battle by using the turbo feature in the emu to get past it but it was just a fluke.

Use Pokesav or Pokegen for things like that.

where to get the one which is Unpack   ..?

When you're downloading Desmume 0.9.7 off the website, it comes in a WinRAR archive. Drag the files inside the WinRAR archive off to whatever folder in your hard drive (NOT a USB stick/drive or whatever, just your C drive), run the emulator regularly, use the cheats regularly and it'll work.

Also, google and read about WinRAR and hard drives. It's general knowledge.

That's probably the most vague answer I've ever seen. I know how cheats work and the only creative element would be in making them. The reason I asked is because I wanted to know if there were people making cheats to intentionally corrupt or crash games, or if it was an issue with the emulator not being able to support all cheats.

Go to ShowMyPC, give me a code so I could see your illegal ROM's region and the code in the codes list. Now, I'll bother trying to figure what it's actually supposed to do, and whether it causes problems because of the emulator or the cheat itself. Surprisingly, most (all?) other appropriate codes work in the emulator, but since you can't be doing something wrong, we're gonna have to investigate it and give you an exact answer with the minimal amount of details given to figure it out. Oh, and you didn't write the AR code either, so even if I was serious, we couldn't do anything with it.

Now, seriously, if you want to see even vaguer answers, just look around the forum. Saying it's the most vague answer you've ever seen indicates you didn't bother trying to read any other threads in the forum/the FAQ, including the thread saying Pokemon games are not supported altogether.

Also, HGSS are hilariously easy without codes. GSC were so damn easy, and HGSS has some Pokemons in slightly higher levels.

#20 Re: Support » is multi touch supproted in desmume? » 2011-03-26 17:12:00

How can I touch two points on the screen at once, as required by Hotel Dusk or Phoenix Wright?

One user got past this by first switching on one of the switches, then pausing the game, and sort of switching on an imaginary switch in the middle of the two switches while manipulating the frame advance hotkey. See, gbatek says that when two points are touched, that the hardware appears as if the average of the two points is actually pressed. But the game expects you to touch them at not-exactly-the-same-time.

Here is a thread discussing it in Phoenix Wright where you may get a different description of this technique: /viewtopic.php?pid=11864

We can't help you any further than reading this+the thread mentioned in the quote.

You need to click it with your mouse continuously and not move it.

#23 Re: Support » Emulator Keys problem » 2011-03-26 00:18:22

Delete your INI file. If it won't work, disable "Select Savestate Slots 0-9" buttons in the Hotkey Configuration.

Sounds like those buttons are pressed god knows why, if deleting your INI file won't help then I bet it's some weird trigger working in your laptop.

#24 Re: Support » Pokemon white works fine until i press a button » 2011-03-25 10:35:25

First, this game is not supported. Secondly, you didn't give enough details about your version of Desmume, where you downloaded it from, whether you changed any settings or not. Also, you obviously didn't read the neither the FAQ, the sticky about Pokemon nor the thread about the game in Compatibility section.

But 2 hints: delete your INI file, and the A button in the settings is used as "OK" button or however you wanna call it. Also, even if the game doesn't move (aka you just see a menu and you don't press A) it doesn't mean it freezes, you just don't choose the damn options in the menu.

#25 Re: Support » In-Game problem » 2011-03-23 18:59:22

If this game works like any other game, you're most likely supposed to use the A button instead of the Start button in menus, while the start button should only be used when you're specifically asked for it.

Also, if this game works like *most* other games, you can probably use your mouse and click anything on the lower screen instead of using any button (some games don't use the lower screen as a touch screen, but so far the only game I've seen which didn't use the lower screen as a touch screen was Sonic Colors DS during the actual levels. I don't play many DS games though).
