In-Game Trading for Pokemon Diamond/Pearl/Platinum

I tried doing an in-game trade in Pokemon Pearl, I believe, and it came up with this screen that looked like the "Nintendo DS" was looking for a signal, but it never went anywhere. I eventually just had to reset the emulator and avoid doing that anymore, but I didn't know if that was a problem with the emulator, if I was just being impatient or what was going on. Any little bit of help would be appreciated...

im going to guess youre using an old version of the emulator
