mario and luigi bowsers inside story

I cannot get past the initial save screen (after I start a new game )with or without a patched rom, but I hear that many people are playing this game. Do I have to alter any settings in order to make the game work? Thanks I am using 0.9.4

Re: mario and luigi bowsers inside story

The USA version of the game works mostly fine here with no tweaking needed. I have some very miny issues I'd like to report though.

1) The sequence for engaging battles and switching between Bowser and the BROS. during battle tends to show corruption.

2) The emulator slows down at various locations in the game (yes it is occupying 100% of one of the cores). I assume a 3.00ghz Core 2 DUO or better would be best? the FAQ mentions a 3ghz processor as recommended, but the differences in architecture between a Pentium 4, dual core and Core 2 DUO etc. is pretty dramatic and the type of processor is not mentioned in the FAQ.

3) Severe yet not show stopping flicker when saving a game.

My specs are as follows:

Core2 DUO e6750 @ 2.66GHZ
ASUS P5KC Mother Board
2 gig DDR2 800 RAM
500g SATA2 HDD
X-FI Extreme Music
Nvidia Geforce 8800gt 512MB PCI-E
Windows 7 RTM x64
Thermaltake 750watt Toughpower Power Supply
Thermaltake Armor+ MX case.

We mean a good 3ghz cpu, not an old crappy 3ghz cpu.

Re: mario and luigi bowsers inside story

When you get to a battle where you have to turn the screen on its side one side of the screen will tend to stop or flicker you get it to work again briefly by closing the lid but then it just happens again and it usually happens on the screen you need at that moment in time.

Re: mario and luigi bowsers inside story

That "cache ADPCM" or whatever audio option improved speed a notable amount while not introducing any additional audio crackle/skipping/repetition, in fact I would say it IMPROVED the audio quality.

You can work around this bug by doing the following smile

1) Save State
2) set the emulator to 90 degree rotation
3) close emulator
4) open emulator (should still be 90 degree rotation)
5) load game
6) load state

It cannot have improved anything other than the speed.

Thanks I'll try that next time I have one of those battles as I managed to get through the first one.

Okay, the feature itself might impair quality (for some/most games?) but the CPU resources it frees up has the effect of improved audio, at least for me. There is no additional artifacts in the audio and the audio runs at a faster, more natural speed with less crackle (buffer under-run?) in intense situations.

I initially worded my impression of that feature poorly.

Re: mario and luigi bowsers inside story

svn 2988 x64 sse2 seems to have the graphical corruption when flipping the screen too, have to close and open the emulator to see the new screen orientation properly.

Re: mario and luigi bowsers inside story

The sound engine now runs as fast as it did with adpcm caching turned on. There was a bug that was making it go slow in some cases. ADPCM cache worked around that bug; instead, now, the bug has just been fixed.

Re: mario and luigi bowsers inside story

Thanks for clearing up what the ADPCM Caching does.

edit: Rotating the screen bug is game independent and not related to specific situations that rely on the DS being rotated. I am thinking it is either a bug in recent Nvidia drivers or a bug in the x64 ones.

Re: mario and luigi bowsers inside story

Rotation is also buggy in 0.9.5, however the new "LCD's Layout" option seems to work fine.

Re: mario and luigi bowsers inside story

Note the FPS text corruption, no ROM is loaded though it screws up pretty much the same with one loaded.

edit: lol I just realized the difference between the rotate and lcd layout options >.> anyways the rotation is still buggy in x32 and x64 builds and was also buggy in v0.9.4.

Re: mario and luigi bowsers inside story

aha you must have a crappy video card that takes desmume down a rarely used codepath. trust me, this isnt a bug for anyone else. but based on your screenshots i think it is a pitch != width bug. if you can test svn builds, ill try and fix this, but i can't test it myself

Re: mario and luigi bowsers inside story

Depending on how hard it is to setup an environment for compiling it, I'll help test stuff. I've only touched source code from Zsnes before and after Zget was invented a few years ago. (it was a tool that automatically downloaded the source and compiled it)

Domino also reported problems with it.

Heres a sample picture of it with a game loaded. Rotating then restarting the emulator (close/open the program) will fix the problem until I rotate again. Happens with Opengl and the software renderer.

Re: mario and luigi bowsers inside story

The video corruption when rotating appears to be fixed in SVN for me in r3227 x86.
