Loading compressed roms

Hi everyone.

I have a question here. I'm using here the SVN 2923 of DeSmuME, and well... I tried in load some compressed roms, but it looks that doesn't load it until I decompress the same rom, which is something harassing, because some roms are very big uncompressed (por example, the Kingdom Hearts 358/2 days USA game have a size of almost 200 MB compressed, which uncompressed have a size of 256 MBs). In past versions (the other version that I have is the official release of 0.9.4, in other words, the revision 1500) loads various of the compressed ZIP roms, while the SVN 2923 (which supposedly have support with other compress formats, such as .rar. I think that it's a feature from newer versions) can't load the same compressed roms that can be loaded in the other version that I have. ¿Could you say to me what's the source of the problem?

Well, I hope for a soon answer. Take care and thanks in advance.

See ya!

Re: Loading compressed roms

It might be helpful to state which compression format you are using, like .zip, .gz, .Z, .rar, etc. ? Also, stating the platform you are using (windows, linux, mac) might be of help.

Re: Loading compressed roms

OK. I'm using Win XP SP3 and the format that I usually use for compressed roms is .zip.

By the way, I downloaded the SVN r2923 from a web called EmuCR, which in the compressed file come with these executables:

- The normal one.
- The normal one with SSE2 support.
- One that says DeSmuME_VS_2008.
- The same of before, only that with SSE2 support.

The rare thing is that with the normal versions I have problems loading the compressed roms, while with the other ones, I can load compressed files with no problems, including .rar files. I don't know if this is a good thing or not, because since some minute that I knew of that.

No, no, dont do *that*. Download the official release from the desmume.org website, or get the latest source-code svn from the desmume (sourceforge) site and compile that yourself, but please please don't rely on other people's distributed svn binaries as you dont know what features were used to compile and you can't verify the svn release it was build from...

Having said that, you mean that the SSE2 builds give you no problems, and the builds without SSE2 do give you problems ?

Re: Loading compressed roms

No. I didn't said that. I said that the desmume_VC_2008 (including the SSE2 version of this variant) of that site doesn't give to me problems, but with the normal version (including the SSE2 variant) from that site I have problems with the compressed files.

And respecting the other thing that you said, I could compile my own version of Desmune, but I have problems with the install of VC++ 2008 Express, because it happens the next error:

Error 1311.Source file not found: C:\Documents and Settings\User\Configuración local\Temp\SIT40007.tmp\vs_setup.cab.  Verify that the file exists and that you can access it.

And the strange is the file that the program is requesting is available, but the install program doesn't detect it. So I can't compile the SVN by myself at all in Windows until I don't have a solution to that.

Well, that's all by now.

Re: Loading compressed roms

Mmm... that's strange. I tried the things that said in that website, but it doesn't work anyway. Mmm... I'm going to try in asking to something in my U about that problem. It's possible that I could obtain a solution to my problem of installation. Thanks anyway.

If you could find a better method of installation for Windows, you could say it to me, please.

Re: Loading compressed roms

There are unofficial svn builds on the web that other people make nightly.

Re: Loading compressed roms

I know. I said before that I downloaded that SVN build from a web called EmuCR. That was because I was having problems with the install of VC++. ¿Any suggest that where I can obtain unofficial SVN builds besides EmuCR?

Re: Loading compressed roms

A word of advice: don't download unofficial SVN builds. I'm not saying the SVN build that you downloaded is infected with some kind of virus or trojan, but there are many unofficial SVN builds with nasty surprises slipped into them.

Re: Loading compressed roms

if you learn to build yourself then you can be sure that it is always clean.

Of course, but many people don't know how to (and are generally too lazy to learn) and so use the unofficial SVN builds.
