Soul Silver Stuck

Dear Forums

I am playing PKMN Soul Silver and when i get to the part where the assistant with the marill try and show you how to catch pokemon (i think anyway) my character stops moving.

Basically he walks up, talks to me (i don't know what he says, its Japanese) and then he walks off, and i can't do anything. Can't walk talk use items go to start menu ect. The game isnt frozen, its just that i am stuck.

Before you ask: Yes pkmn ss is out in japan, No i cant read it, No i don't need to read because its basically the same game as before.

It gets stuck when you choose the male character at there all the time for me too. I tried the female character, and it gets stuck whenever you try battling your first opponent in the route after your rival. Your pokemon doesn't come out of your pokeball.

I'm playing as well, i'm already past that point. what i would do is save very often. the game crashes unexpectedly for me. if you try the part that you froze on again, you might get through it. there's no way around it unless you wait

Did you get past the first trainer in the route? Not your rival. Because I keep getting stuck there.

I've been trying Heart Gold and I have managed to get to the second gym without any problems.
Can't wait for English release.

Rumour is that there's a patch floating around for this. Google is your friend. Also, don't use old versions of DeSmuME (just saying).

Same thing happened to me. The save file corrupts so restarting is useless, I tried saving in 2 places and that didn't help either for some reason so there is no way to fix it without deleting the entire file and restarting.

I have never had any problems playing Pokemon Soul Silver with DeSmuME 0.9.4

It's the HG/SS translator dude!

Ehrm, the only notable issue I've noticed was the ground being slightly pixelated, that isn't a huge or noticeable aspect of the game play.

it wont let me even play. i get to choose my name and everything but when it shrinks me and puts me in the house, the game screen turns black

Maybe you should try DeSmuME instead of No$GBA, just saying.

Hmm, I ran into the "freeze" problem. Quite a strange way for the game to crash. Music in the background still plays, only in battle, the Pokemon doesn't get summoned and the Poke Balls in your roster just spins around. Pseudo-freezing any one?

Hrm. time to file a bug report in the sourceforge bugtracker, and post (a link to) a savestate right before the problem occurs ?

Not sure if it occurs with this particular sequence, or if it just happens randomly when battle occurs. I fought a trainer before this one though. I'll try to get a better save depicting the problem better later.

Edit: If you need the patched version in order to load that save file, I can PM it to you.

Its part of the anti piracy, basically when ever the game thinks its not on a real game card it throws it self in to an infinite loop, basically freezing the game. It seems to happen the lest amount on desmume compared to other emulators and flashcarts. From my experence, if you save the game with a save stat, and then get a freeze like this, then trying to reload the save state and battling the trainer over again it friezes again. I got past it by
doing an ingame save and restarting the emulator and loading the game from the battery file.

I noticed, I saved before that specific battle again and it went through. They're getting smart about pirating now lol. Can't blame them, I plan on buying the game anyway, but there's just more you can do on an emulator easily.

I'm using DeSmuME and the top screen is black but the bottom screen is working correctly, I can move on the top screen because I was able to go downstairs and talk to me mom LOL

PKMN HG works perfectly on the latest SVN with very little of freezing. I got up to the 7th gym and so far I haven't experience any perminent freeze, only a temperary freezes which disappeared once I reset the game.
At first, I thought this was the bug with the patched game because I use the Eng-patched version, but I've read from the internet that it plays perfectly without freezes on a DS. So this makes me to believe that it is the emulator problem.

Yeah, I think the developers of this game are more smart now to put some tricks like this when the game knows that you are playing it on a emulator not a DS by puts a perminent freezes which you can never get rit of it unless you play it on a real DS. Hopefully this emulator can make itself behave more like a DS to prevent this perminent freeze from happening again.
Another choice for you if this kind of freeze happens very often. Try update to the latest SVN. Pokemon Heart Gold works find for me on the latest SVN and the new V0.9.5. I had gotten up to the last gym in the game with only one freeze so far.

Can someone here teach me how to save in-game in soul silver. everytime i save the game freezes.. so i use savestates.. help. many say savestates are not recommended.
