Controller and Zelda

I'm playing Zelda Phantom Hourglass with Desmume.
I'm not just at the beginning, I'm almost at the end.
The game hasn't recognized the controller for a few days now.
I can set up the controller in Desmume, it is recognized, every button is recognized, but the game only responds to the mouse.
I have three controllers, and none of them are recognized by the game.
What's the problem, what can I do?

Re: Controller and Zelda

Most of the time I've played with the controller. Only occasionally, for special tasks, have I used the gamepad's functions.
Now it's only possible to play complicated games with a mouse, controller and keyboard, which is impossible.

Re: Controller and Zelda

You write "controller" and "gamepad" as if they are different things which behave differently, but they sound the same to me.
I routinely play games with a controller. Even more readily possible with keyboard and mouse to assist.
I don't understand you at all.
You may need to draw pictures with labels.

Re: Controller and Zelda

Please excuse my English, but I'm German and translate with Google.
For me, this is a controller:

Gamepad is the actual Nintendo DS device that you have to use from time to time, but which Desmume emulates.
I've played with a controller so far and can now only use the keyboard and mouse, which is not easy but very difficult.
Desmume recognizes the controller in the settings, but no longer in the game.

Re: Controller and Zelda

I don't use the gamepad when I play phantom hourglass. Most people don't. Does the gamepad even do anything? What are _you_ doing with it?

Re: Controller and Zelda

Sorry, but that's not my question. My question is:
Why doesn't my controller work anymore?
And what can I do to make it work again?
Thank you for your efforts!

Re: Controller and Zelda

I still don't understand your question.
What were you doing with the controller in the first place?

Re: Controller and Zelda

Nope, I'm completely serious. I don't know what's malfunctioning unless I know what you expect to be functioning.

Re: Controller and Zelda

Ok, I'll try again:
I've been playing Zelda-PH with Desmume and a controller for months.
I can set the controller under Settings, and Desmume recognizes it. X-Button, A-Button, Left-Button...
For a few days now, Desmume has recognized the controller, but the game Zelda no longer does. If I start Zelda, I can't play it with the controller.
Why? And how can I activate the controller again?

Re: Controller and Zelda

What do you expect the X button to do?
What do you expect the A button to do?
What do you expect the left button to do?

Re: Controller and Zelda

In the settings, Desmume asks me which is the X button, which is the A button...
The start button starts the game, the left button moves Link to the left, the right button moves Link to the right...
I can't remember exactly what A, B, X, Y are for, but that's what you fight with, for example.
You write that you also play PH. What do you do it with? With the keyboard? That must be hell!

Re: Controller and Zelda

I'll try screenshots
Here you can see Desmume with the settings for the controller. Everything is OK, it is recognized.

Here you see Pokemon, the figure is at the beginning
https://ibb.co/dJLtwv0

Pokemon again, this time I moved the figure with the controller.
https://ibb.co/9sFN50S

Now Zelda PH at the beginning (saved game)
https://ibb.co/LRH0bLK

Now I'm trying to move Link, but it just keeps selecting, no matter which button I press, and that's the same when I restart the game, so it has nothing to do with the saved game. And a few days ago I was able to move Link with the controller like in Pokemon.

I want to move Link using the controller again, like Pokemon.
How do I do that?

Re: Controller and Zelda

This games was using TOUCH SCREEN only. If you want controller (called D-path), ask anyone at GBATemp website.

Re: Controller and Zelda

As I suspected. You were using a modified phantom hourglass or an enhancement script and the enhancement script failed. The modifications and enhancements are the only way link moves by pressing the gamepad.

Either you didn't know you were using modifications or enhancements, or refused to admit it. In either case, we can't help you troubleshoot it. Read the documentation that comes with the enhancements/mods or the community forums more closely.

Re: Controller and Zelda

I played the game with a controller until mid-December. I'm close to finishing the game. Since then I haven't had time to play and haven't changed anything in the game. Now, in January, I want to keep playing and it doesn't work anymore. I haven't changed anything or updated anything. I'm not on the Internet with the computer either, so Windows can't have changed anything either.

Re: Controller and Zelda

Then one of these four things happened:
1. You accidentally deleted a file (most likely a lua script)
2. Your kid brother did it accidentally or on purpose
3. You were running everything from a zipfile instead of having dearchived it into a directory under your user control and windows lost the temp files
4. You don't understand the difference between savestates and ingame saves, and you're using savestates, and the lua script got confused, and when you load the state you restore everything to the confused state. You could solve this problem by not using savestates.

That could be. Thank you very much!
