Problem with desmume command line options

I have desmume 0.9 installed on Debian Linux.

When I read the "README.LIN" file it states that there a options you can run with desmume.  Like:

[quote from readme file]
NOTE:
The Gtk+ and Glade builds use gtkGLext to handle the OpenGL
rendering and contexts. You may get improved performance by
also passing the argument --gdk-gl-force-indirect. This has
been seen to improve things for Nvidia based graphics cards
under Linux.
[end quote]

but when I run:  ./desmume --gdk-gl-force-indirect

I get:

Error parsing command line arguments:  Unknown option --gdk-gl-force-indirect

I get this with any option I try to use.

Any Help?

Thanks.
