learning how to make emulators...

So I am slightly new to coding, and it will just be a pastime. I want to build emulators aswell. But when I viewed the source code I was slightly shocked that I did not understand ALOT of it. I have learned alot but what should I study to possibly help with the DeSmuME project or make my own emulator?
edit - also for the person that made this. Was it a group effort or just 1 person?

Re: learning how to make emulators...

It was originally one person who made it, now it's a group effort. As far as programming, like anything, perseverance is key.

Oh thanks. Like 3D rendering, does it have that? What type of programming is that?

Yeah, it uses OpenGL for 3D graphics. There are tons of really good tutorials on the web about OpenGL and 3D programming in general.
