I beat lance, the champion. Then it rolled the credits, then it made me go to the start screen. When I pressed my in game file, the screen went black. Then I save stated on the black screen. Is it possible to fix this black screen? I just now see that save states are bad. But is there still a way to fix this?

When you LOADED that savestate, the contents of your in-game save got dumped out to disk. If the in-game save was broken at that point, then you now have only a broken in-game save. Next time, make backups of important documents.
You should also use a newer version of desmume which has timing hacks to improve this game, so that the game might not crash itself and ruin its save file whenever it restarts after the credits (or think about what else you may have done to ruin the in-game save)
It's also possible that the game dumped its own broken in-game save while it was busy crashing.
People have been saying this is happening to them for years, but I think they're cheating or hacking or savestating or something. I'm not sure anyone has actually tried going through the credits on a version of desmume that's newer than 5 years old

I pressed reset and it took me off the black screen and now im at the start screen with all of my data but when I press my save file it goes back to the black screen. Is there anything i can do at this point?

post your .dsv file. unless you used a randomizer or pokegen. then you voided your warranty.

Where would i find my dsv file?

With your desmume files. I can't help you with basic computer operation skills.

Jusf help whenever you can @zeromus

thank you for posting that .dsv. Thanks to that, I think I was able to identify a years-old problem in the emulator that gives black screens in pokemon games when loading the save file or restarting after credits.
Get the new appveyor build from the desmume downloads page but beware my "fix" was to stop supporting x86 so you will have no choice but to get the x64 version. With that you should find that you can load your in-game save.

I tried downloading it but is says "The code execution cannot proceed because VCRUNTIME140_1.dll was not found. Reinstalling the program the program may fix this problem.

because you didn't run the prerequisite installer that article linked to

I am so sorry but if you could run me through what to do here that would be appreciated. I tried two different paths.
1. I went to appveyor on the desmume download page under latest stable release. I downloaded the .exe under artifacts and then it said "The code execution cannot proceed because VCRUNTIME140_1.dll was not fou downloaded nd. Reinstalling the program the program may fix this problem." I tried searching how to fix it but none of the options worked.
2. I also tried downloading DeSmuME v0.9.11 64-bit version. I ran it, I tried to load the savestate that was stuck on the black screen on the other version and it said "Error loading savestate. It failed halfway through; Since there is no savestate backup system, your current game session is wrecked."
I apologize if I am wasting your time but I am just confused.

none of those paths included something called the "prerequisite installer" so neither of those paths were a good idea. go back to the desmume download page and search harder

I got the prerequisite installer, the version of desmume from appveyor worked, but it says "Error loading savestate. It failed halfway through; Since there is no savestate backup system, your current game session is wrecked." when I try to load the ds# savestate

Wow! Look likes 32 bit (x86) was over...
Say bye-bye to Windows XP and 32 bit on Windows 7, 8 and 10....
Then, you should make news to everyone about this emulator was no longer support on oldies Windows anymore.

I have not heard one complaint since we went 64bit only for bizhawk.
Are YOU stuck on a 32bit system? I ran 64bit xp and server 2003 for years. You can too. I can't believe there's a processor capable of running desmume that isn't also capable of 64bits.

I have PC with 64 bit Windows right now. Don't worry! I hope someone will reenable 32 bit (x86) until official release version soon.
Offline
Nobody will re-enable 32 bit (x86). Why do you care? Do you know so many x86 users?

OK! Never mind! New version of Desmume was dropped 32 bit! So, just use No$gba only for running DS games on both 32 bit and 64 bit.
Anyway, thanks Zeromus! Take care from coronavirus! Stay at home!

according to the steam HW survey, no more than 0.9% of people are using 32bit windows, and 100% of those are grandmas playing hidden object games
