I was playing Pokemon Heartgold on desmume version 0.9.11. My cat walked on top of my keyboard (so I have no idea what he pressed). It triggered a frame counter to appear on screen, and my partner tried to fix it. He pressed F10 and nothing else but upon trying to reload the game, my save file had disappeared.
No save states were used since nicknaming my Chikorita (the F10 save state); I always used the in-game save function instead.
Searching for .dsv files only gave 2 results that were already in the Battery Folder (when attempting to drag these into the emulator, the first time the emulator just said Paused and wouldn't seem to unpause. Subsequent attempts had nothing happen except the standard white screen that occurs when opening the emulator without a game running).
Searches so far only seem to have people discussing save states and dsvs.
Please could somebody advise as to whether there is a way to retrieve my save data as I don't want to have lost all the progress I made.
Thanks in advance,
Roggish

When you loaded the F10 state, the .dsv in-game save progress was updated (downgraded) to match the F10 progress.
You need to backups of files which you are investing hours in, whether it's videogame saves or spreadsheets for work.

It's... hopeless then?
Thank you for the response time. There's nothing I can try?

you can try looking for backups with your operating system's or other 3rd party backup software you may be using. or you may have been running this stuff inside a cloud backup directory with old versions of the .dsv
