Every Desmume revision after git#9c12846 runs quite slow on my laptop

My specs: Windows 10, Intel Core i7 2.6GHz 8-core, GTX 980M, 16 GB ram.
It works fine in git#9c12846 and in retroarch with desmume core, but when I try to use a later version of the emulator it runs at 32 fps.
I've been trying different settings with no results.
I've been searching online if this problem already happened with no results either.

test every single version from appveyor until you find the one that introduced the slowdown

Re: Every Desmume revision after git#9c12846 runs quite slow on my laptop

change your config > display method

Also, in that time frame, someone came and merged changes which I predicted (correctly) would be promptly abandoned, including wifi changes which should slow down the emulation in case you have a slow CPU (which you do) aka EXPERIMENTAL_WIFI_COMM

"Intel Core i7 2.6GHz" is not a cpu but rather a vague description of a CPU so I can't be sure. The fastest 2.6ghz i7 is 50% faster than the slowest one.

So I bet you have chosen a display method that's working poorly on your gpu (choose opengl), and you're running a game that is hard on desmume and unfairly extrapolating from there to all games, AND your notebook fans are dusty.

Thanks for doing all that legwork, but unless you want to install visual studio community and make your own builds possibly with EXPERIMENTAL_WIFI_COMM disabled or figure out which one of those commits is truly the culprit, I don't think there's anything more you can do.

wifi commits

https://ci.appveyor.com/project/zeromus … s/16826562

possibly related commit due to lame efforts to manage performance in already low-performing systems which could malfunction
https://ci.appveyor.com/project/zeromus … s/16917176
https://ci.appveyor.com/project/zeromus … s/16923628

both in one apparently

Re: Every Desmume revision after git#9c12846 runs quite slow on my laptop

i noticed that too.  i was playing drkds  yesturday and after awile it would just get randomly slow  when its the only thing running.  i noticed it picks back up in speed  if i go to the battery performance slider and mess with it.  it happens at random.  yes fans are clean and driver are up to date latest version of windows 10  thermal paste is good.  but it happens on the lowest settings.

Well, thanks for that very detailed description of something that we can is absolutely positively say is not desmume's fault. Maybe you shouldn't be using the up to date drivers.

Thank you that worked for me and fixed every single game, it still runs with higher maximun fps on the older build but whatever.

The problem was with every game I have (Mario Kart DS, Chrono Trigger, Mario Kart DS, Kirby Super Star Ultra, Zelda Phantom Hourglass, Pokémon Soulsilver, Kingdom Hearts 358/2, New Super Mario Bros, Dragon Quest IX and WarioWare DIY)
Anyways I would like to try building it with EXPERIMENTAL_WIFI_COMM disabled so others can use DirectDraw HW on a pc like mine.
The full name of the cpu is Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-6700HQ CPU @2.60GHz

I won't rollback the drivers unless necessary.

well, you're on your own. run visual studio and edit the .props file to remove that declaration. but that wasn't the actual problem and it won't be a "help" let people use directdraw HW. The performance will still be unacceptable on anyone with a gpu driver as dysfunctional as yours is.
