So Desmume (official 0.9.8) native Gtk release from Ubuntu 12.10's software centre is painfully slow (many games can't pass 50 FPS) and barely has settings to modify in its menus, so I tried to run the official 32bit Windows release on Wine. An error shows:
"DirectSound8Create error: E_INVALIDARG - An invalid parameter was passed to the returning function. Unable to initialize DirectSound".
I tried some basic solutions that sometimes work with other applications in Wine but to no avail, and it works so much better than the Linux build other than the lack of sound (games previously mentioned easily surpass 200+ FPS when disabling framerate limit) - any solution for that issue?

just keep trying. theres some magic directsound initialization parameter you havent found. i suggest trying random crap even if it breaks the sound, just in case it lets it get initialized. because then youll at least get information about what is keeping it from getting initialized. do your basic solutions involve editing the directsound initialization code?

Nah, by basic solutions I actually meant messing around with Wine's driver settings rather than Desmume's settings. I'll try to work with that.
Alright, best thing I've found is that obviously when SoundCore2 is set to anything other than "2" (which is named DirectSound Interface in the actual GUI I guess), everything's fine and dandy...otherwise, the other initialization options don't affect the error message.
