Let me explain an odd problem I have run into. Do fully explain I will start with an experience I had a couple days ago playing Dragon Quest VI I was using 0.9.6 x64 and I made it a ways into the game with little trouble. Eventually I hit a point where the world map would go black however if you took a step back it would become visible again. It looked to me like the map would only go black once you went far enough south. I got 0.9.7 and the problem was fixed. Now that Dragon Quest VI is working Castlevania is not. Castlevania had been working back on 0.9.6 but in 0.9.7 it now has a black screen. Both versions have the same settings.
Is there a setting that could effect areas that cause this behavior? Anyhow that seems to be the worst of the problems so far.

Once you get in game the screen your character is on (Lower) goes black. In dragon quest 6 While on the map if you traveled south far enough it would go black but if you moved the character north a couple steps again then it would go back to normal. This happened in the last version 0.9.6 though and no longer happens in 0.9.7 However in 0.9.6 castlevania worked fine I even finished the game. I can supply a savestate but I don't see a place to attach it to here. I can upload a copy to my mediafire account if that is alright.

Still not working out. The best I could get were some large blocky colored squares instead of just black but it is still broken for me. Guess I will just wait it out and see if the new graphics card I get changes anything.

Or switch to software rasterizer. That doesn't use your graphics card, which also means getting a new one won't have any effect on it.

i seriously refuse to believe that you have a problem like this while using soft rasterizer unless you post a savestate to prove it.

This game still has the same problem in 0.9.8
I have tried every setting and this game will not work since 0.9.6 back on that version it worked fine but in 0.9.7 and 0.9.8 it now has a black screen on the lower screen. Nothing I change will solve it. I am using an xfx 6970 card under win 7 x64 and am using the x64 version of the emulator. This is not a problem with the graphics card either I have tried this using a 4850 as well and the same problem exists.
I don't know what to say other than this is no longer working and it did before just fine.
I had hopes that this might be fixed in this version but as it still persists I thought I should mention it.

Sorry it has been a while. I installed the latest version fresh so the ini would have been brand new anyhow. But I did try deleting it and starting over. Same problem.
Just in case I didn't mention I have tried the latest version and the previous version and on 2 completely different computers with 2 completely different graphics cards. I have run through all settings many many times and nothing seems to fix this issue.
Hardware is almost completely ruled out at this point given the fact I have run this on a couple of systems now.
The game worked in 0.9.6 though just fine. It worked on all of these systems in that version but simply stopped working in the last 2 versions.
I even tried this in win7 x86 and x64 and in win consumer preview x64. But in win8 I had a lot of errors so that didn't help the cause much.
I really don't think there is anything left I can do at this point on my end of things. I just wanted to describe the problem and what I have done so that there is enough information for you to hopefully get to the bottom of what is happening.
I suppose I could record my screen and show the issue and show that it works in 0.9.6 but not in later versions. I don't know if it would help though.
I put a copy of the state on my newgrounds account you can download it from there and look at it as well it may or may not help.

how do i get it to break in ecclesia? will you find it broken in-game immediately after loading from your save file, or do you have to go to a certain area to make it happen?
if youre using soft rasterizer it couldnt possibly have anything to do with your video card.
loading a savestate from an old emulator version is not guaranteed. load from in-game save and proceed from there.

Right from a fresh start it is broken. Once you get to the town the screen is broken and as I mentioned this has happened on more than one set of hardware which kind of rules out a graphics card issue to some degree.

I just played through to wygol village in 0.9.8 x86 with all options at default. cant try it in x64 desmume. you should confirm that you can get to the village in x86 desmume before we proceed to debug why it doesnt work in x64 desmume

Greetings. I registered just to join THIS topic here.
I have the exact same problem, EXCEPT ; It's only a black screen (or large color blocks if I play around the configurations) IF I load a previous saved state. If I start a brand new game, it appears okay. I don't want to have to play another 100 hours to get back to what I had with the saved state.
Anyone have a solution nowaday ?

When I get some time I am going to run fresh installs of both x86 and x64. I will do this with more than one rom source as well just to eliminate the rom as a possible problem. If I remember correctly I had the issue in both x86 and x64. I think when the x64 failed to work I tried x86 just to see if it was the cause.
But yeah let me get a day where I can dedicate a couple of hours to test this and I will run it as many different ways as I can. I really want to see this problem get solved if we can nail down the cause of it.

Heres what we need to debug it effectively: a state in the worldmap, where I can immediately enter the town, and encounter black/blocks. or: a state in the worldmap, where I can immediately enter the town, then save/load, and suddenly have black/blocks. Theres still no guarantee we can fix it in any kind of short order as there are deep and twisted intractable bugs in desmume's timing, but the latter scenario could be fixed as it is simply a bug in roundtripping the savestates.
