Just tossing this out there because on the win8 consumer preview I can't load a rom. I get an error that there is no disk in drive E which makes no sense and then the only option is to forcefully crash the emulator.
Can we get some support for the next release?
I just checked and this seems to only effect the 64bit version. I was able to run the x86 version without issues.

Yeah it does have that but that will not fix the issue or I wouldn't have posted. So far using that does not fix any applications in win8 and come to think of it I never had it work once in 7 either.

It appears the problem is with the shortcut. After going back to win 7 I have the same problem but only if I make a shortcut to the emulator. If I launch the emulator directly from the exe it works fine if I create a shortcut on the desktop it will not load a rom it says there is no disk and must be closed from the task manager.
I do not know what the difference is but you cannot launch from a shortcut.
Just some info. I am running the emulator from a 2tb external drive that is usb 3.0 and I created the shortcut by right clicking the exe and using send to desktop. I have my roms in the rom folder in the emulators directory and they are all unzipped .nds files. I can open zipped and unzipped and from the rom directory or from a different location if I do not use the shortcut. Using the shortcut always creates this problem. I am using 0.9.7 x64 and had this issue on both win 7 ultimate x64 and win 8 consumer preview x64.
I suppose I can live without a shortcut but I would still like to get to the bottom of this issue. It is driving me mad lol.

Win7 and 8 give external HDD same drive letter?

your shortcut must say that the working directory is e:\

Yes after more fiddling I found that the shortcut did not have correct directory settings for whatever reason. The issue is now solved which also means that nothing is needed for this to work in win 8 The emulator would run in 8 but was giving me this problem. When I changed from 7 to 8 something happened and that caused the shortcut to be created incorrectly. When I went back to 7 the problem persisted for whatever reason. It probably has a lot to do with the external drive and changing the OS around.
I am just glad I could finally narrow down the cause and that it was something so simple. I suppose this topic does serve as some kind of help since it would solve this issue for anyone else with a similar setup to my own.
