Desmume 0.9.7 x64 runs fine, then extremely slow.

The problem I am having is that desmume will run fine for about 20 or 30 minutes (at about 50 FPS), then my speed will drop all of the sudden to an unbearably slow speed between 10 and 20 FPS.  This is a new problem so I know desmume can work fine on my computer but ill put my computer specs bellow just in case.  I have tried re-downloading desmume, new roms, deleting the ini file, a full virus/malware scan, and using Game Booster premium v2.3 to close background processes.  Nothing works.  The main game I am trying to play is pokemon heart gold (U) patched but this problem exists on many other games as well.

System specs
-----------------
Acer aspire 8930g (windows 7)
Intel core 2 duo P8600 (2.4ghz)
4gb ddr3 ram
2815mb nvidia geforce 9600m gt turbocache

It's a laptop. It overheats after a while and reduces CPU speed to keep it from becoming a flame-thrower, if you get the idea tongue

I am using speed fan, I can see the temp level of all components and it dosn't go higher then any other game.  Everything else works fine.

as I said earlier, it was working fine for me and I could play full speed with no issue, this is a new problem that only started recently.  Overheating wouldn't have just started out of the blue

why do you have two threads for this.
yes, overheating would have just started out of the blue. maybe you moved your laptop two inches to the left and the thermal characteristics of the desk are different there,
