Flashing Screen

Whenever I try to play a game on DeSmuMe, my screen keeps flickering.  When it does this, the bar at the top will say not responding, so it seems like it is switching between responding and not responding.  I've tried version 9.8 and 9.7 and this happens in both.  I read that switching the display method to directdraw sw might help, but that made it worse.

I have windows 7 64 bit
Intel Core i7 950 @ 3.07GHz cpu
ATI Radeon HD 5800 Series
12.0 GB ram

Any ideas as to what the problem may be and how to go about fixing it?

Re: Flashing Screen

try upgrading or downgrading your video drivers. is it your entire screen or just the desmume window?

Re: Flashing Screen

I have the latest video drivers.  I'll try downgrading.  It's just the desmume window, not the whole screen.

Re: Flashing Screen

Yup, same issue is happening to me. I was using DeSmume completely successfully 4 days ago. I'm not sure of the cause. Did a windows update destroy all versions of desmume?

Re: Flashing Screen

You know, I've recently heard of a windowsupdate that can do something like that. The description was a little different. It's coming back to me now... the solution was some kind of registry hack that seemed related to shutting down. It's like there was some process trying to shutdown the system and failing. I'll update this post if I can remember more.

I'm pretty sure this was the file. I still cant remember who found it for the semi-related topic or what that topic was.

Re: Flashing Screen

That files fixed the problem after a reset, thanks!

A problem that it didn't fix that cropped up at the is that "direct sound" option produces no sound. But Xaudio2 works find so I guess it's not an issue.
