I am trying to put cheats on pokemon the cheats are for action replay but i do not know what to do

You use the 'cheats' function in the menus, which are very well documented in the manual on our site.
If you can't find those functions it means you're not on the windows version of the emulator. Which means you're boned.

all i get is a cannot save to file error when saving an AR code ive tried changing the cheats path aswell still no luck.

If it is set as 'Read Only' it won't save your cheats.
But I got a problem of my own, I used some cheats and they worked just fine. I tried to disable the cheats and they didn't disable. Later on they were disabled, so I put in new cheats from the same source as the original ones; however, no new cheats will work. What I want to know is if there's a way to reset the emulator, other than reinstalling.

delete any .dct or .cht file you may have laying around while the emulator is closed. when you boot your game, dont use savestates. theres no way any cheats can be leftover, then.

And now I have a problem. I wiped all my cheats, deleted the DCT, my saved game, uninstalled and reinstalled the game/program and everything, and no matter what I do, whenever I enable cheats, the game freezes... What do I do?
Also, please note, this is on Diamond. The cheats used to work, but now they don't and I don't know what to do...

are you loading a savestate, when it freezes? if you made a savestate while cheats are enabled, then the savestate is ruined

I don't have any savestates, only saved games. If in any shape manner of form, cheats are enabled, even if I immediately disable them, as soon as I press a key, the game freezes. DeSmuME still works, I can reload the game, but the cheats are not saved...

can you quit using whatever cheat it is that is freezing the game?
"the cheats used to work" - yesterday? on a different version of the emulator?

The cheats work before I closed the emulator for the first time, and the only way I can quit is if I close the ROM. I have done everything I can think of, including completely removing all of it and reinstalling it and it wont work...

youre trying to enter a specific cheat. whenever that cheat gets enabled, it kills the game. but that didnt used to happen? it only happened the second and subsequent times you tried to enable that cheat? do you have this problem with other cheats? if you verify that you have an empty cheat list, and then enable cheats, does the game still freeze?
what do you mean "the only way I can quit is if I close the ROM." Is there some malfunction in the half dozen other ways that you can quit (the emulator, i assume).
if you've truly got rid of all the files from your old desmume directory when you discovered that things were broken, then im having trouble seeing how this could be happening. you should be able to try it on a different computer and have no problem. theres a file somewhere thats left behind. did you unzip it to a directory under your control, or are you running things from the zipfile directly?

I don't even have to activate a cheat period. I just just enable cheats and press a button and the GAME freezes, not the emulator. I can still use the emulator, but I will have to reset the ROM generally, so I have to reload Pokemon Diamond completely. And unless there are other files besides the ones that are made within the main fold you put DeSmuME, then yes, when I remove the emulator, I remove ALL the files.

so youre saying your have cheats in the cheat list, which are all disabled, but you enable the global cheats, and then the game freezes?
Offline
Yes. The game freezes, and I can't do anything besides restart the game.
Although some experimentation allowed my to discover 2 problems. Apparently, when turning cheats on, all cheats have to be unchecked. Also, the cheat to fully unlock the pokedex doesn't work, it causes a massive data overload which crashes the game. I plan on doing some more experimenting with it. I hope it will work...

you said "yes-- cheats are in the list and are all disabled. i enable the global cheats, and the game freezes"
then you said "apparently, when turning cheats on, all cheats have to be unchecked" -- in order for _what_ to happen? for it to work? (that would conflict with what you said yes to)? for it to freeze? (that would agree with what you said yes to)
or perhaps you read " zeromus: blah blah ignoring so youre saying your have cheats in the cheat list, which are all disabled, but you enable the global cheat, and then the game freezes?" to which you replied: "yes. the game freezes"
i'm not trying to be a jerk. youre just not making sense.

i was playing pokemon conquest and i used a cheat "1-hit k.o" i turned it off but everything gets killed in 1 hit so i just started and now i m over-leveld plz help!

When you cheat, you break the game.
When you close the emulator you reset the game.
When you load a state, you load the broken game.
So: save in-game, delete your cheats, close the emulator, open the emulator, use the game's menu to load your save game.
