nds files versus gba files

hi i have basic computer knowledge and have used desmune before and like it a lot but it seems to only detect gba files, i cant seem to get pokemon emarald ruby and saphire to work. im thinking that for some reason it wont detect nds files. can i get a little help please?

You're likely doing something completely wrong.

Describe the steps you take to load a game, in detail.

those are gba games, this is a ds emulator. am i missing something?
