Advance Wars DS

First of all, hi guys and nice job smile

I had some troubles with Advance Wars dual strike. I tried both European and US version of the game with the last Desmume release (0.6.0 both on linux and win) and along with some minor issues (can't read some text from menus and speeches) there's a big issue: map isn't visible at all. Here's a screenshot:

printscreendz3.gif

I tried WIP build too, on windows, and it corrects some minor issues (i can see menus now), but the main problem still remains, in a cow-like form big_smile

printscreenwipmq7.gif

Here are my computer specifications:

1) win xp sp2
athlon 2ghz
768mb ram
nvidia geforce 4 mx 440-se

2) ubuntu linux 6.10
pentium 1.70ghz
1gb ram
integrated video chipset (dunno exactly)

Re: Advance Wars DS

It's possible that layer is supposed to be clouds and the game makes it transluscent. The emulator doesn't have that function implemented yet though, so you gotta wait till one of the future WIP versions with that function implemented is released I guess. tongue

Re: Advance Wars DS

Simply wait for 0.7.0/next WIP, there's no guarantee it'll work but it'd certainly be emulated better.

If you are reading this signature, you SERIOUSLY need to get a life.

Re: Advance Wars DS

Yes smile  I just thought they were a bit weird so I was wondering about causes. Actually in the first one there's a seagull flying over the black layer, so I think Serio could be right (the cow one resembles clouds too).

Re: Advance Wars DS

Advance Wars DS seems to work better on no$gba, but it is still slow and instead of red/transparent movement squares you see black squares instead (which cover up units and terrain,so you gotta memorize units and terrain before you select the unit).

Just posting cause this is my favourite game on DS, and hope it will be emulated by DeSmuME soon.

AND HEY! look at the top-left corner! if you play AW series you will know that the green triangle-ish thing is the plains! Shows that the game content is actually emulated. Just do something with that cow~~~ SHASH COME COME COME!

Re: Advance Wars DS

WIP means "Work In Progress".
And you can get those from either compiling your own builds, or here: http://amponzi.googlepages.com

Athlon 64 X2 3800+ / 2Gb DDR2 800Mhz
Geforce 8600GT 256MB / Windows XP PRO SP3

Re: Advance Wars DS

If you read the page snkmad referenced, you'll see that they are recent builds post 0.6.0 release. The changes listed are additions (like new features, more speed, more compatibility, etc).

Re: Advance Wars DS

What little fixes?
It requeris a lot of programming and DS hardware knowledge to emulate a system.
If you manage to compile your own build, i say its a great achivement already smile

Re: Advance Wars DS

Hey shash have you or anyone else found a fix for the braile like right side text yet where it reverses the colours? You remember I showed you that screenshot?

Just wondering cuz as you know I can't compile the CVS so I can't exactly check progress and I would think it would be fairly easy to fix....

Re: Advance Wars DS

Nope, worked on other games I prefer over Advance Wars. I guess I could spend some minutes with it, if the bug is still there... Although I don't know when I'll have the needed free time.

Re: Advance Wars DS

If the texture bug was fixed (and it seems it was, seeing the latest screenshots on the blog), then most likely it's fixed.

You don't like advance wars?! Impossible!

Anyway, can someone confirm that advance wars will be fully playable (as in FULLY) at the next desmume release? Cause that would really be awesome.

Re: Advance Wars DS

I didn't say I liked or disliked it, just that I prefer other games over Advance Wards.

No, we cannot comfirm that I'll be fully playabe, something can get broken before release. So better wait until a release, and check, ok ? smile
