Speed help with Desmume 0.9.6 on Mac

I've looked at the FAQ for how to make Desmume run faster but nothing is working.  Some questions:

The FAQ keeps talking about external Bios images.  How can I tell if I'm using external Bios images or Bios Images that are already in Desmume?

It says to switch between OpenGl Renderer and Software Rasterizer.  From a topic on the forums it said that there should be an option on the Desmume menu that allows you to switch between the two under Config>3D Settings, but there is no 3D settings option in the Desmume menu.  Is there some reason it's not there and can I do anything to make it appear?

I tried totally turning off the sound but it didn't change the framerate at all.  The FAQ said you can go into the sound settings to make it go faster, but there is no sound settings option in the menu like above.  Any reason it's not appearing?

How do I know whether I'm using the NOSSE3 build or the SVN build?

I tried frameskipping, it makes the game go insane.  I'm playing Tales of Innocence if it matters...

The FAQ says you can disable a screen by going under Tool>View Layers>Main GPU, But the only think under Tools is IO Regs View.  I've tried messing around with it, all these Bit things come up with check boxes beside them.  I've tried checking and unchecking them but it doesn't seem to do anything.  Is there anything specific I can do under there to change the speed?

I'm using a Mac, so the FAQ says making an SSE/SSE2 build should help speed.  How can I make an SSE/SSE2 build?

Thanks for taking the time to read this, any help would be greatly appreciated!

Re: Speed help with Desmume 0.9.6 on Mac

practically all the speedup advice in the faq applies to windows users, not to you. the osx version and the windows version are very different. i applaud you for reading the faq, but it says right at the top:

Much of the advice in this document will implicitly assume that you are running Windows. Users of other operating systems should try to apply the advice as best they can, but beware that it may not make any sense for their particular platform, since the DeSmuMEs for operating systems other than Windows tend to be crippled in comparison.

if you havent told desmume to use an external bios, it isnt.

run it from a commandline to see which options are available, which should probably include an option to switch to the opengl renderer. check the linux documentation for details on how to operate the commandline in osx.

none of the other things you mentioned are available or relevant in osx.

If you have Snow Leopard you can try out this 64-bit cli build which runs a lot faster than the 32-bit 0.9.6
