Strange digimon dawn error?

I was playing this rom fine until, in chip forest the game froze. At least I thought it did. Instead it keeps pausing. I tried saving/loading from in-game but that didn't help. I even tried my friends rom, and it's still does it. Until this the game was fully playable, no errors/crashes. But this pausing thing is really annoying. Is there a way to fix this. I believe that  it has something to do with compatibility of the game. What could help?

pausing is desmume's way of showing you that the game crashed. when you unpause it does the game continue playing..until the next time when it pauses again? or does it just stay paused forever no matter what you do?
