Force widescreen

I can do this with a code for mkds but what about a universal force widescreen hack?

Re: Force widescreen

It depends on what you mean by "widescreen hack".

If by "widescreen hack" you mean "force the NDS video's 4:3 aspect ratio to 16:9", then can be easily be done. It would make everything look stretched out and distorted, but it is possible. Just stretch the final video framebuffers from 4:3 to 16:9 in the client, and there you go -- widescreen NDS video.

But if you mean "extend the 3D rendering view to encompass an additional viewing area that fits widescreen", then this will never happen. The technicals of doing this on an NDS make this impossible to do with any reasonable consistency.

I cannot stress this point enough, so I'm going to say it as clearly as possible:
The NDS is not a natural 3D system, so you can't treat it as such!

The vast majority of NDS games incorporate both 2D and 3D layers in their video framebuffers, where the 3D layer can be dependent on the pixel alignment of the 2D layers, and vice versa. Using a widescreen hack would break this alignment. Now.... if color blending was the only interaction between layers, then a widescreen hack would be possible. However, there are other interactions between layers to consider on an NDS, and so these interactions must be preserved through the 4:3 aspect ratio. In short, this kind of widescreen hack is never going to happen.

Re: Force widescreen

Well im meant extend the 3D rendering view.  But if that's not possible then thats ok.   Disregard what i said then.

Re: Force widescreen

I don't understand "extend the 3d rendering view". At first it sounded like you meant to do whatever was done in MKDS universally, which doesn't extend anything, but just tweaks the projection matrix. So is that what you wanted, or is it something else?

this is what i ment. except with any game that is 3D. obviously a 2D game couldn't do this.  least i dont think it can.
