dosn't work pokemon platinum still starts at the begining and i have to start a whole new journey unless i save state.

Desmume 0.9.6-win64bit downloaded from emuparadise.me im not sure if its old or not but its not THAT old so I dont't think so.
also does it matter? I still don't know how desmume works in the save and load department, I could really use an explenation on how to safe a game file to the computer( don't you need to press export backup memory?).

I'm currently playing pokemon Platinum but im having trouble loading my saved file
When I save in the game and save state and then quit - start again and play Desmume wont allow me to load my saved file from the game but it does allow me to load my save state.
when I save in game I dont think desmume creates a file in my computer for me to load from later or is it so that it doesn't have to?
plese help and explain processing of saving and loading files the normal way (not save state).
