Bottom line is -- always make in-game saves AND backup your dsv file when playing long RPGs. It's the only way to be sure.
]]>I suddenly ran into some trouble while I was playing Dragon Quest 5 on DeSmuME 64-bit. First, when I switched the LCD view from one screen to two, I began to get a tremendous amount of flicker as both LCDs tried to render both their own screen and that of the other screen, from what it looked like. I could not figure out how to fix it, so I uninstalled the emulator and downloaded it fresh. This fixed the flicker issue, but now I have a new problem.
Now, anytime I try to open the menu in the overworld in Dragon Quest 5, the game simply freezes and refuses to respond to any inputs. I had made a copy of my save states and simply pasted them back into the States folder in the emulator's location, so I was hoping I wouldn't need to start the game all over again. Loading the save state works just fine, and I can run around and get into random battles; I just can't open the menu.
I'm using the DirectDraw SW display setting and have only mapped a controller instead of using a keyboard; I haven't messed with any other settings.
I did a quick look through the first couple of pages of the forum and didn't find anything directly related to my problem, so I'm hoping someone would be able to help me out or at least tell me I'm SOL. I appreciate any advice!
***EDIT: It appears it was a problem with the save state itself and not any other dumb things I tried, as I was able to load a proper game save and now have no problems opening the menu. From a technical perspective, is there an explanation as to why a save state would cause this trouble and not a game save?
